Below is a list of all walks up until the end of October 2009 that are being organised by the Malvern Hill District Footpath Society. They were formed in 1973 ‘To promote the enjoyment and preservation of all Rights of Way and to foster an understanding of their place in the countryside’. Their walks are for all levels of fitness - check the individual walk for details - and contact the people listed if you would like to join them. Should be something here for everyone!

Thurs 4 March - A Walk over Silurian Limestones and Shales

Meet Imperial Road 9.15 for a 5.5 - 6.0 mile circular walk.. There are two fairly steep hills to ascend, one of them being Cockshot Hill. Bring a packed lunch.

Sat 6 March - Boundary Walk No. 12

1. Longer Walk

Meet Imperial Road 8.40 for an easy 10 mile walk through rolling Herefordshire countryside, passing the church in the field and Bodenham Moor. Bring packed lunch.

2. Shorter Walk

Meet Imperial Road 8.40 for an easy 6.6 mile walk through rolling Herefordshire countryside via Preston Wynne, Amberley court and Upper Holbach. We shall join the longer walkers until morning coffee time. Bring packed lunch.

Meet Imperial Road 9.30 for a 5 mile easy walk along the Severn Way, over Ashmoor Common and return to the church. Bring drinks.

Meet Imperial Road 9.00 for an easy/moderate 9 mile walk with quite a few stiles through varying terrain. Bring packed lunch.

Meet Imperial Road 9.30 for a 5 mile moderate walk in this beautiful corner of Herefordshire. Bring a morning drink and snack if required.

April

 

Sat 3 April - A Cotswold Ramble

Meet Imperial Road 8.45 for a 10 mile easy/moderate walk via Winstone, Syde, Brimsfield & Caudle Green. Bring packed lunch.

Wed 7 April - Cotheridge and Broadheath

Meet Imperial Road 9.30 for a 7 mile easyish walk via footpath NW to reach Cotheridge Church, then to Tinkers Cross, then past Heath Grange Farm to arrive on Broadheath Common, and Howsen. Could be muddy. No major hills. Bring packed lunch.

Sat 10 April - Boundary Walk No. 13

Meet Imperial Road 8.45. This moderate walk (12 miles/10 mile option), via Bodenham and Risbury Cross, has outstanding views and uses farm tracks and minor roads. Bring packed lunch.

Tues 13 April - Leisure Walk – Around and About Hanley Swan

Meet Imperial Road 9.30 for a 5 mile easy walk with just a slight incline of about 0.25 mile at the end. As this will be a leisure walk, the pace will be dictated by the slowest walker. Bring packed lunch which we will have near the end of walk.

Sat 17 April - Adopted Walk No. 16

Meet Imperial Road 9.00 for an 8 mile moderate walk to Astley Church and Shrawley Wood, with just one steep short climb. The walk takes us past Glasshampton Monastery, Astley Church, River Severn and back through Shrawley Woods. Bring a packed lunch.

Thurs 22 April - Storridge and Knapp & Papermill Reserve – Adopted Walk No. 29

Meet Imperial Road 9.15 for a 5.5 mile moderate walk. Bring drinks and snacks. Maybe finish with lunch at the New Inn.

1. Longer Walk

Meet Imperial Road 9.00 for a 10 mile moderate walk passing The Farm, Peg's Farm, Hill Top Farm, Upper Townsend Farm, Slatch Farm, Orchard Farm and Noverings Farm. Bring packed lunch.

Meet Imperial Road 9.00 for an easy 6 mile walk with two uphill tracks. If weather is suitable, a packed lunch may be brought to eat by the pond after the walk

Sat 1 May - Boundary Walk No. 14

1. Longer Walk

Meet Imperial Road 8.45 This is a moderate walk of just over 10 miles in rolling countryside with minimal signs of habitation. Because of a shortage of Rights of Way, there is some walking on minor roads and farm tracks. Bring packed lunch.

Meet Imperial Road 8.30 for an 11 mile moderate/hilly walk in the Cotswolds. Visiting: Coberley, Elkstone, Upper Coberley and Hartley Hill. Bring packed lunch.

Sat 22 May - Leigh Brook Circular

Meet Imperial Road 9.30 for an approximately 10 mile walk, generally easy but with some short hill climbs. Route will be via Upper Sandlin, along the Worcestershire Way over the hills, Knapp Papermill, Alfrick, Hopton Court and along the Leigh Brook. Bring packed lunch.

Meet Imperial Road 10.00 for a 4.5 mile hilly circular walk via Holywell, Perrycroft, Downs School and Upper Wyche. Bring packed lunch

Thurs 3 June - North & West Malvern via Storridge

Meet Imperial Road 9.45 for a 4.5/5 mile easy undulating walk north of the Malvern Hills via Storridge, taking in orchards and the farm shop of Knights Cider Co., (shop may be open for cider sampling!). One steep climb and one steep descent – 8 stiles. Bring refreshments;

Meet Imperial Road 9.50 for an easy 7 mile walk, (there is also a simple short cut for a 6 mile option), in rolling countryside we rarely walk and with some lovely views and relatively few stiles.. Bring packed lunch.

Sat 12 June - Clifton, Lower Sapey and Harpley - based on Adopted Walk 55

Meet Imperial Road 9.00 for a 10 mile moderate to hilly walk. Take in some of the Teme Valley; see a partial 12th century dovecote, and walk through the pretty hamlets of Lower Sapey and Harpley. May be muddy. Bring packed lunch.

Meet Imperial Road 9.15 for an 8 mile moderate walk taking in Kings Caple, Hoarwithy, Pengethley Park and Sellack. Bring packed lunch.

Tues 22 June - An Exploration of a Canal Restoration

Meet Imperial Road 9.30 for a 3.5 mile leisurely walk.. The walk is to Alney Island and Llanthony Lock. Picnic or snack at Wharfhouse, Over.

Wed 23 June - Breakfast Walk

Meet Imperial Road 7.00 3.5 mile moderate walk on the western side of the Hills before breakfast at 9.30, (£7 per person – full English plus cup of tea/coffee), followed by a 3 mile moderate walk.

Thurs 24 June - Elmley Castle and Bredon Hill

Meet Imperial Road 12.20 0 for a 5 mile moderate/hilly walk over Bredon Hill. There will be tea, scones and cakes at Manor Farm at the end of the walk.

Sat 26 June - Away Day to Hay

Meet Imperial Road 8.30 to catch the coach to Hay on Wye.

 

1. Longer Walk

There will be a moderate/hard walk of 9 to 9.5 miles with John Barr towards Hay Bluff, with time for a cup of tea and cake in Hay. Bring packed lunch.

 

2. Shorter Walk

A moderate 7 to 7.5 mile walk with Sue with time to look around Hay and a cup of tea and cake.

Bring packed lunch.

 

We hope non-walkers will join us for a browse round Hay and a picnic by the river.

The cost will be £9 for the coach.
